iPhone Duo App Store Screenshot Size Guide

Apple has published separate screenshot dimensions for the outer and inner displays of iPhone Duo. You can prepare those files now. Dedicated Duo asset uploads in App Store Connect are still planned for later in 2026, according to Apple’s September 9 release notes. This guide separates the published requirements from a practical preparation workflow.

INNER · OPEN LANDSCAPE

Schematics follow the official display aspect ratios: outer in portrait, inner open in landscape. The center line marks the fold. The inner display is one continuous screen; app content columns do not have to be equal in width. Apple HIG ↗

The four official iPhone Duo screenshot sizes

Choose the display first, then the orientation. Keep outer and inner captures in separate source folders so a correctly sized export does not accidentally show the wrong interface. These values are output pixels, not layout points or safe-area measurements.

Use this table to plan asset exports across devices. It compares accepted App Store image dimensions, not physical display density. PPI is a hardware measurement; it does not determine whether an exported image matches an upload slot.

Do you need both displays, or only the unfolded view?

For preparation, keep separate outer and inner source sets. The app may reveal different content when opened, so an unfolded screenshot alone cannot demonstrate the closed-screen experience. This is our production recommendation; Apple’s published size table does not by itself establish that both sets are mandatory for every submission.

Plan by the device categories your app supports, then by language and supported orientation. A practical working package can contain a current iPhone set, a Duo outer set, and a Duo inner set; add an iPad set if the app runs on iPad. Those are production folders, not a claim that four sets must be uploaded today. Apple currently requires the 13-inch category for apps that run on iPad, while its Duo upload support is still forthcoming.

Can you upload Duo screenshots today?

Not to a dedicated Duo asset slot as of September 11, 2026. Apple’s release notes distinguish publishing the specifications from opening upload support. Treat this as an asset-preparation window: produce files, review the adapted UI, and retain the source project. Check the release notes again when preparing the actual submission.

A generator accepting a Duo preset does not demonstrate that App Store Connect accepts that category. Avoid renaming a Duo file as a conventional iPhone size to make it pass an unrelated upload slot. Continue maintaining the screenshot sets required for your current release.

September 9 App Store Connect update

File format, transparency, and screenshot count

Apple’s general screenshot specification allows one to ten images in JPEG, JPG, or PNG and excludes alpha channels and transparency. App Asset Kit exports opaque PNG files. Its editor currently accepts up to five source scenes per project; a panorama scene creates two output tiles. The tool’s scene count is separate from Apple’s upload limit.

Check the file itself after download. A white-looking PNG can still contain an alpha channel. Keep the original capture as well as the finished marketing image, and give each locale its own folder. This makes it easier to replace a translated screen without mixing languages in a finished set.

Apple screenshot formats and count

App preview video uses different dimensions

Do not export a movie at the screenshot dimensions by habit. Apple lists 886 × 1920 for portrait Duo previews and 1920 × 886 for landscape previews. The general preview specification sets a 15–30 second duration and a 500 MB maximum. The screenshot generator on this page produces still PNGs; it does not turn a screenshot rail into a recorded app demonstration.

For a video brief, write down the actual interaction to capture, the start and end states, and the intended orientation. Review the video separately from the screenshot set: pacing, app state transitions, audio, and a useful poster frame need different decisions from headline placement.

A practical export workflow

Start with one display and one orientation. Upload genuine captures of the adapted app, choose iPhone Duo in the generator, and select Outer display or Inner display. Set portrait or landscape, then review the entire rail before exporting. Repeat with the other display’s own source captures.

Use the first panel to show a concrete user outcome. An outer-screen set might demonstrate a focused task; an inner-screen set can show related context if the app actually provides it. That is an editorial choice, not an Apple requirement. Do not add a second pane just because there is more canvas.

  • Keep raw captures separate from exported images.
  • Use display and orientation in folder names.
  • Check each PNG’s actual pixel dimensions and alpha status.
  • Inspect text, UI, and any crop at full size.
  • Save the design project so copy and screenshots remain editable.

Common mistakes before handoff

Resizing a tall conventional iPhone screenshot into a Duo rectangle can produce plausible pixels while hiding a layout problem. The same risk appears when a desktop or iPad view stands in for the adapted iPhone app. Make the capture process part of the review, not just the export process.

Device artwork is another separate choice. App Asset Kit includes an independently drawn Duo frame based on Apple’s public illustrations, with separate inner and outer display details. You can disable the frame in design settings. It is not an official Apple asset. Use Apple Design Resources when an official product composition is required and review the resource terms.

Frequently asked questions

What size is an iPhone Duo outer display screenshot?

Apple lists 1398 × 2034 pixels and 2034 × 1398 pixels for the outer display.

What size is an iPhone Duo inner display screenshot?

Apple lists 2007 × 2853 pixels and 2853 × 2007 pixels for the inner display.

Are Duo screenshots required for every current submission?

Do not infer a submission requirement from the new size table. As of September 11, 2026, Apple says dedicated Duo asset uploads will arrive later in the year.

Can I generate the files before upload support opens?

Yes. You can create and review local files using the published dimensions, then verify the latest upload requirements when the category becomes available.
