App Store Screenshot Sizes for iPhone and iPad

Apple accepts several exact pixel pairs for each display category. Most teams can begin with a high-resolution 6.9-inch iPhone set and, when the app supports iPad, a genuine 13-inch iPad set. This reference reflects Apple’s current App Store Connect specification checked on August 1, 2026.

Recommended App Store screenshot sizes to prepare first

For a current iPhone submission, 1320 × 2868 is the highest-pixel 6.9-inch portrait option available in App Asset Kit. Apple also accepts 1290 × 2796 and 1260 × 2736 for the same category. Landscape uses the exact reversed pair.

If the app runs on iPad, prepare a separate 13-inch set. Use 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 in portrait, with the dimensions reversed for landscape. The source capture should show a true tablet layout.

All current iPad screenshot pixel sizes

A supported iPad app needs a 13-inch category. Other accepted categories are useful when a product has a materially different layout for older form factors or the team wants direct control instead of scaled assets.

File format, orientation, and scaling rules

Screenshot files may be JPEG, JPG, or PNG without transparency. Use one orientation consistently when it reflects the product, or supply the exact accepted landscape pair for an app designed around horizontal use.

Apple can scale a supplied highest-resolution set for smaller display categories when the interface is the same. Scaling does not turn an iPhone layout into an iPad layout, and it does not remove the need for a real 13-inch iPad set when the app supports iPad.

  • Use opaque output
  • Do not resize by changing only one dimension
  • Match source orientation to the final canvas
  • Inspect exported pixels before upload

Frequently asked questions

What is the best iPhone App Store screenshot size to start with?

1320 × 2868 portrait is the highest-pixel 6.9-inch option in App Asset Kit and a practical current default.

What is the current 13-inch iPad screenshot size?

Apple accepts 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 in portrait, with the dimensions reversed for landscape.

Do I need both portrait and landscape screenshots?

No. Use the orientation that represents the app. If uploading landscape, use an exact accepted landscape pair rather than rotating metadata only.

Can App Store Connect resize screenshots?

Apple can scale a highest-resolution set to smaller sizes when the UI is consistent, but iPad still needs genuine iPad assets when supported.

Can PNG screenshots have transparency?

No. App Store screenshots cannot include an alpha channel or transparency.
